Naxalites have attacked the police team in Gaya, in which two soldiers have been martyred, while three soldiers have been injured. The incident took place in the barrio of Chatra Sadar police station area. The martyred soldiers include Sikandar Singh, resident of Wazirganj, Gaya district of Bihar and Sukan Ram, resident of Tarshi village of Palamu district. The injured include Akash Singh of Palamu, Sanjay Lugoon, resident of Kurthabera village of Chaibasa Manoharpur police station area and Kushnlal Hazra of Garam Palamu in Giridih district. Due to Akash’s condition being serious, he has been sent to Ranchi by helicopter. Sikandar was posted in Sadar police station, Sukan had come to Chatra duty from PTC Hazaribagh.
Attack on soldiers returning after destroying opium
Regarding the incident, police say that the team of Sadar Police, Vashishtha Nagar Police and Forest Department had gone to Gamhartari to destroy poppy (opium). When they were returning after destroying the poppies, the Naxalites, who had been ambushed the evening before near the barrio, suddenly attacked the police team and started firing indiscriminately. Police say that Naxalites have fired about 30-40 rounds. When the Naxalites opened fire, the police also retaliated. As soon as information about the incident was received, Police Station Head Shiv Prakash Kumar reached the spot with his team and took the five soldiers to Sadar Hospital. On reaching the hospital, doctors declared Sikandar Singh and Sukan Ram dead.
